Ways to Promote Tdap

Receive Free Tdap Vaccine (non-profit clinics)

Maximize convenience for patients by providing Tdap vaccine in your clinic. Click here for an application for FREE Tdap Vaccine for pregnant women and household contacts from the State General Fund .

Tdap Vaccine is a Medi-Cal Pharmacy Benefit (available at no charge to patient)

For Medi-Cal Managed Care patients, call the member services number on the back of their Medi-Cal Benefits Identification Card (BIC). For Medi-Cal Fee-for-service (including Presumptive Eligibility), call your local pharmacy to confirm availability.

Implement Standing Orders

Research shows increased acceptance of Tdap by the patient/family if the physician/provider verbally recommends Tdap vaccination during prenatal visits.   Consider implementing standing orders for Tdap. Click here for an example.

Give Consistent Tdap Message

All clinic team members should give the same message when educating patients and their family/support system regarding the importance, timing, safety, effectiveness of the Tdap vaccine.

Say: “The Tdap vaccine protects you and your baby from pertussis (whooping cough).”

Say: “The whooping cough vaccine during your 3rd trimester will help protect your baby starting at their first breath.”

Don’t Say: “If you don’t get Tdap, your baby can get really sick.”

What's New in CPSP

CPSP Provider Trainings

LA County is now opening registration for our 2017 trainings!

Once a month we will be having a training from 8:30am to 4:00pm at the California Endowment in Downtown Los Angeles (conveniently located located one block from Union Station via the Red or Gold Line).

The training will include an overview of the CPSP program for new staff, as well as updates for staff who want to learn about LA County's new forms and current resources.

The training and parking are free!

Registration information for 2017 will be distributed per our CPSP provider email list.

Zika Virus Update

Zika is a mosquito-borne virus. In Brazil, the site of a large ongoing Zika outbreak, there has been a substantial increase in the number of babies born with microcephaly (small head circumference). Please click here for important information for obstetric providers and pregnant women. For a CPSP provider in-service training on Zika, please contact our office at (213) 639-6419.

Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

Pertussis is on the rise. We strongly recommend that CPSP providers offer/refer pregnant patients for Tdap during 3rd trimester to protect newborns from pertussis. Visit CPSP website or to learn more about what your office can do to prevent pertussis.

Choose Health LA Moms

Choose LA Moms is a free, internet-based six-month program to help moms get to a healthier weight after having a baby. It encourages new moms to drink more water, walk, and breastfeed. Resources and referrals are available for participants. Refer your patients to:
