Areas on the maps without red stars
can still have rabid bats. Red stars represent
bats that have tested positive for rabies after
they were found near people or pets, then
reported to Animal Control and then tested by
Public Health.
In 2023, 42 rabid bats were found
in Los Angeles County. Most of them - 39 -
were found at homes, one was found on a
residential sidewalk, and two were found near
businesses. Three of the rabid
bats were found indoors at homes, and the rest were found outdoors.
