The objective of the Medical Advisory Committee
(MAC) is to provide a forum where medical and public
health professionals can advise the Division of HIV
and STD Programs (DHSP) in:
The development and implementation of HIV care,
treatment and prevention programs, and
HIV related quality assurance and quality
management policies.
Originally established in 1985, DHSP coordinates and
directs the overall response to the HIV epidemic in
Los Angeles County, in cooperation with the Los
Angeles County Commission on HIV, community-based
organizations, governmental bodies, advocates, and
people living with HIV. In collaboration with
its partners, DHSP establishes the standards of care
for HIV services throughout the County. In an
attempt to improve services offered, DHSP has
identified medical and public health experts, and
community partners, who make recommendations
regarding the provision of HIV service via the
Medical Advisory Committee (MAC). The Medical
Advisory Committee creates the opportunity to
enhance HIV services and DHSP operations.
