Did you know?

Rabid bats are found every year in Los Angeles County.

So far in 2019, 50 rabid bats have been found.        2 were found at schools, 2 were at public parks, 2 were inside of homes, 35 were outside of homes, (including 3 outside of apartment buildings), and 8 were found outside of businesses.

1. Sierra Madre. February.  Canyon bat found alive clinging to the wall at a school. 

2. Monrovia.  April.  Hoary bat found dead in the front yard of a house.  

3. Hacienda Heights. April. Hoary bat found alive on the ground of a mobile home park.

4. Westlake Village. April. Mexican free-tailed bat found clinging to the side of a home in the back yard. Fell to ground.

5. Studio City. April. Hoary bat found alive on a sidewalk outside of several businesses.

6. Azusa.  May.  Canyon bat found alive on the sidewalk outside of an apartment complex.

7. Monrovia. May. California myotis bat found alive clinging to the side of a home in the backyard. 

8. Los Angeles/Hollywood.  May.  Mexican free-tailed bat found alive on the roof of a business.

9. Santa Clarita. June. Canyon bat found dead in the backyard of a home.

10. Agoura Hills. June. Mexican free-tailed bat found in a backyard. Bat died later.

11. Stevenson Ranch.  June.  Canyon bat found alive outside of a house. 

12. Los Angeles/West Hills. July. Canyon bat found alive near a pool outside of a home.

13. Los Angeles/Tarzana. July. Canyon bat found on the street in a residential area.

14. Santa Clarita/ Canyon Country. July. Canyon bat found floating in a pool.

15. Porter Ranch.  July.  Canyon bat found alive on the cement outside of a house.

16. Glendale.  July. Canyon bat found alive outside of a house.

17. Santa Clarita/Canyon Country.  July.  Canyon bat found alive on the driveway outside of a house.

18. Los Angeles 90021.  August.  Mexican free-tailed bat found alive inside of a business warehouse. 

19. Glendora.  August.  Big brown bat found alive at the maintenance building of a public park. 

20. Woodland Hills. August.  Canyon bat found alive on the sidewalk outside of several businesses. 

21. Pacific Palisades.  August.  Bat found alive in a private swimming pool at a house. Unable to identify bat species.

22. Newhall.  August.  Canyon bat found alive in the backyard of a house.

23. Sylmar.  August.  Canyon bat found alive outside at a business.

24. Santa Clarita.  August.  Canyon bat found alive in a private swimming pool at a house.

25. Calabasas.  August.  Canyon bat found alive clinging to the wall outside of an apartment complex. 

26. Santa Clarita.  August.  Canyon bat found alive in the backyard of the house.

27. Chatsworth.  August.  Canyon bat found alive in the backyard of a house by the pool.

28. Glendale.  August.  Canyon bat found alive on the front porch of a house.

29. Santa Clarita.  September.  Canyon bat found alive clinging to the wall at a school. 

30. Burbank. September.  Canyon bat found alive on a balcony in a condominium complex. 

31. El Monte.  September.  Yuma myotis bat found alive on a window screen outside of the home.

32. Santa Clarita.  September.  Canyon bat found alive on the driveway in front of a house.

33. Chatsworth.  September.  Canyon bat found alive clinging to the wall near the front door of a business.

34. Santa Clarita / Newhall.  September.  Canyon bat found alive outside the front door of a veterinary clinic.   

35. Santa Clarita.  September.  Canyon bat found alive on the front porch of a house.

43. Santa Clarita.  September.  Canyon bat found alive clinging to the wall on the front side of a home and then found dead in a planter. 

44. Sylmar.  October.  Canyon nat found alive outside in the backyard of a house.

45. Newhall/Santa Clarita.  October.  Canyon bat found alive inside of a home. 

46. Santa Clarita.  October.  Canyon bat found alive clinging to the screen door of a house. 

47. Los Angeles 90007.  October.  Hoary bat found alive on the sidewalk by a university. 

48. Santa Clarita.  October.  Canyon bat found dead on a sidewalk outside of a house.

49. Glendale. October. A Mexican free-tailed batwas found in an alley  behind a business, clinging to a wall.

50. Northridge.  November.  Canyon bat was found alive inside of a house on the 2nd floor.
