Public Health Investigation
TBC has the legal authority to protect the public's health from communicable TB. Public health investigators (PHIs) enforce legal orders if a patient is suspected of endangering the public's health. Patients who remain communicable and are otherwise non-adherent and/or homeless are detained at one of the County hospitals though private hospitals may also be utilized.
Chapter Eight, “Legal Aspects of Tuberculosis,” of the TB Manual describes these roles in greater detail.
