Resources for Schools
Studies show that adolescents are at very high risk for
STD infection. Female teenagers are more susceptible to STDs due to having an immature cervix, a condition known as ectopy. As a result, there are high rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea among this population. Other reasons for the high prevalence of STDs among teenagers include, but are not limited to, lack of information, lack of insurance or other ability to pay for services, transportation, discomfort with facilities, confidentiality, unprotected intercourse, substance use.
School-based programs that incorporate STD education into their curriculum help increase STD awareness among students. The STD Program offers several resources to schools to help with their STD education and prevention efforts. Resources include general STD information, technical assistance in the form of curriculum and presentation development, staff trainings, presentations for students, free literature, audiovisual materials, free condoms for individuals and schools, and more.
We
also offer free materials, including posters, postcards, palmcards, and other
materials related to our "I Know" Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing social
marketing campaign.
