  • VITA/TCE/E-FILE -- Income Tax Services from 2/1/2002-4/15/2002
    VITA or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites provide assistance to taxpayers regardless of age during income tax season.
    TCE or Tax Counseling for the Elderly sites devote special attention to those taxpayers 60 years of age or older.

MAYWOOD:

Senior Citizen Program:
The City of Maywood invites all seniors to the new Senior Center. Come and spend an afternoon at the Center. Some of the activities are playing Bingo, Exercises, trips and many more. Hours are from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Lunch is also served at the Senior Center at 11:45 A.M. Monday-Friday a donation of $1.75 is welcomed. For more information contact Mickey Otero Site Manager at (323) 562-7043. The Maywood Senior Center is located at 4801 E. 58th St. at the Maywood Activity Center.

Free Lunch Program:
Maywood Community services along with the Old Timers Foundation are now providing lunches for kids under 18. Lunches are served Monday thru Friday at 11:00 A.M. Lunches are served at the Maywood Activity Center (MAC) located at 4801 E. 58th St.

Graffiti Abatement Program - Hotline (323) 562-5000 (Option 7):
The City has contracted with Graffiti Protective Coatings Inc. to remove graffiti in our City. GPC started on September 1, 2001 and will be paid from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies. Please call to report any graffiti to the graffiti abatement "hotline", the number is (323) 562-5000 (Option 7).

Dial-A-Ride Program:
The City of Maywood offers local bus transportation to its residents. The shuttles will pick you up at your location and run within the city limits for a one way fee of $1.00. The service is free to senior citizens, age 62 and over, and handicapped individuals. In order to use the free service, seniors and the handicapped must come to City Hall to pick up their free pass. Anyone can access Dial-A-Ride service by calling 323-583-0231 to schedule pick up.

Maywood Scholarship Program:
The Maywood Scholarship Program is designed to encourage students to a higher education, empower their community, and to create better citizens of the future. To accomplish this goal, the top ten (10) winners will each receive a scholarship amount up to five hundred dollars. Students attending a trade school, community or junior college will receive reimbursement for tuition, books, and lab fees for each year of verified enrollment, provided they maintain the minimum G.P.A. of 3.0, after the initial award until they reach the five hundred dollar limit or graduate. Reimbursements will be made payable to the student with receipts. Students attending four-year institutions will receive one lump sum payment. Lump sum payments will be made payable to the institution on behalf of the student. Applicants must be a resident of the City of Maywood and a high school senior planning on attending a college or university or trade school (public or private). MTA Bus Pass Subsidy Program:
The City of Maywood offers its senior citizens and handicapped residents discounted MTA bus passes. These are the same passes you can purchase direct from MTA, but at a dramatic discount to our residents. The passes are sold for $4.00 each. For seniors you must provide proof of residency and age. For handicapped individuals, you must present your handicapped I.D issued by the MTA and proof of residency. Passes go on sale the 25th for the up coming month through the 10th of the following month. For more information, please call the City of Maywood's Finance Department at 323-562-5704.

PICO RIVERA:

Nutrition Programs/Classes:
Pico Rivera operates a senior nutrition program for its residents at least 60 years old from Monday to Friday at its Senior Center (9200 Mines Avenue). During the summer, the City offers a free summer lunch program for school age children at local park sites.

The Pico Rivera Senior Center:
The Pico Rivera Senior Center maintains an on going program of classes, social services and special events for persons 50 and older. Regular programs include health screenings, Thursday dances, a monthly Restaurant Club and a variety of exercise and leisure classes. The Center also operates a fitness center with state-of-the-art exercise equipment.

Trips and Tours for All Ages:
Adult and family trips are offered throughout the year for the convenience and enjoyment of residents at affordable prices through the "On the Go with 90660" excursions. Registration is based on a first-come, first-paid basis at the Recreation and Community Services Building, 6767 Passons Blvd. Call 562/801- 4448 for a brochure of scheduled trips and additional information.
