The Nutrition/Physical Activity Initiative with Public Health Nurses (PHN) is a grant funded program through the California Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families.

The program goal is to develop and implement nutrition and physical activity promotion interventions in SPA 4 utilizing Public Health Nurses as key resource agents for food, nutrition and physical activity.

As a result of the “Nutrition Network” grant, Public Health Nurses and clinic nurses are incorporating nutrition and physical activity education messages as a routine part of patient care.

The nurses also formed a steering committee to plan and implement a variety of activities to promote healthy eating and physical activity for patients and residents in SPA 4. Free workshops, seminars and lectures for health care providers and the community are also sponsored by the steering committee.

• Nutrition presentations
• Participation in partnerships
• Participation in health fairs
• Nutrition poster contest in schools
• Participation in advocacy and policy and development
