Los Angeles County Market Match

Market Match is a program for people on CalFresh (formerly known as food stamps) and the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to help them buy nutrient dense food at participating farmers markets. For every dollar of CalFresh or WIC benefits, the program gives an extra $1 in Market Match tokens or vouchers that can be used to buy fruits and vegetables. Market Match is currently operated in over 50 farmers markets across Los Angeles County. This program also supports local farmers and businesses and promotes sustainable food systems. Through ARP funding, the goal of the Los Angeles County Market Match program is to increase household food security in Los Angeles County by ensuring that residents experiencing poverty and participating in federal food assistance programs, such as CalFresh or WIC have increased purchasing power for healthy foods. These additional funds have expanded Market Match to an additional 15 farmers markets and brick-and-mortar locations where fresh fruits and vegetables are sold to ensure that CalFresh and/or WIC recipients can purchase more healthy foods with their benefits. The Los Angeles County Market Match program is implemented in historically under-resourced communities across the County, specifically in areas with the highest rates of CalFresh cases per census tract and in historically redlined neighborhoods.
