Food as Medicine Task Force

Background

The Food as Medicine Task Force is a collaborative coalition committed to advancing the integration of food and nutrition interventions as part of healthcare in Los Angeles County. Formed as a key initiative of the Los Angeles County Food Equity Roundtable’s Strategic Plan, the Task Force works to expand access to medically supportive food and nutrition interventions for Medi-Cal recipients. This effort aligns with the national "Food as Medicine" initiative, which focuses on using food as a tool to treat and prevent chronic diseases.

The Task Force convenes a wide range of stakeholders involved in the Food as Medicine movement across Los Angeles County. These include community-based organizations, local government, and funders. Together, they work to achieve the goals outlined in the Food Equity Roundtable's Strategic Plan. In addition, the Task Force serves as an educational and collaborative forum, providing a platform for knowledge exchange among stakeholders.

Membership

The Task Force is comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders, including community-based organizations that provide medically supportive food and nutrition services, philanthropic leaders, and County government leaders.
