Project LEAN California Project LEAN (Leaders Encouraging Activity and Nutrition) (CPL) is a joint program of the California Department of Health Services and the Public Health Institute focusing on youth empowerment, policy and environmental change strategies, and community-based solutions. |
In March 1992, twenty nutrition experts from Los Angeles County assembled to address the goals and objectives for the Healthy Los Angeles 2000 countywide initiative.
Healthy Food Choices utilizing principles promoting positive nutritional messages were recommended for the Los Angeles County 2000 countywide initiative. California Project LEAN's award of $12,000 was used for the first Los Angeles Region Project LEAN Healthy Food Choices Campaign.
On December 3, 1992, Los Angeles Latino Project LEAN was created to motivate the consumption of healthful foods among the Los Angeles Latino community through media and retail channels. Los Angeles Region Project LEAN was successfully administered through the Marilyn Magaram Center, California State University, Northridge, from 1995 through 2001.
Currently Los Angeles Region Project LEAN is a catalyst for healthy behavior changes through nutrition information and education, and policy/environmental changes that support healthy eating and physical activity to children and adults throughout Los Angeles County in schools, community-based organizations and faith-based organizations.
