Mission
The Mission of the Department of Health Services Geriatric Special
Services unit is to improve the quality of life of the frail elderly,
and their families, in Los Angeles County through proactive partnership
with the community, private organizations, and governmental entities.
The unit advocates for family-centered, community-based delivery
of a range of quality services that allow older adults to maintain
independence within the least restrictive environment. GSS identifies,
networks, and collaborates with public and private services that
help enhance programs for older adults in the community so they
can continue to be independent and functional. The GSS unit is
also active on various older adult committees and serves as the
liaison to the Department of Health Services and Board of Supervisors
concerning older adult issues.
