Fall Prevention

Falls are the leading cause of injury hospitalization in Los Angeles County. Between 2003 and 2007, for every hospitalization due to a motor vehicle collision, the second leading cause of injury hospitalization, there were more than three fall-related hospitalizations.

Falls are particularly detrimental to adults 65 and older and have serious implications for individual health, overall population health, and healthcare costs. Adults 65 and older account for 10% of the Los Angeles County population yet more than 63% of fall hospitalizations and deaths.
