FLU TOOLKIT FOR SCHOOLS

In 2009- 2010, two different vaccines are recommended for school-aged children to prevent influenza (flu). The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians, recommend all children 6 months through 18 years of age receive the seasonal flu vaccine every year and the Pandemic H1N1 flu vaccine this year.

LACIP is promoting flu awareness by offering a suite of customizable materials for school administrators. These are designed to encourage parents to vaccinate their children. The 2009-2010 Flu Toolkit for Schools includes:

  • Fact sheet for parents 
  • Slide presentation for parents 
  • Links to additional resources to promote seasonal and Pandemic H1N1 flu vaccination.

English Spanish 		This template provides customizable text for use on school websites. It alerts parents to the flu vaccination guidelines and provides resources for more information and free/low-cost vaccination.
Parent Informational Letter Template    English Spanish This letter template can be customized by your school to promote parent awareness of vaccination guidelines, as well as school immunization-related activities.
Flu Clinic Letter  
English Spanish		 This letter template can be customized to send to parents when flu clinics are scheduled at your school.
School Administrator Letter Template   English This letter template can be customized to inform principals and administrators of school-based flu immunization activities.
Action Steps for Schools to Prevent the Spread of Flu, CDC  
English		 This document offers tips for schools to keep their students and staff healthy while at school. It also offers suggestions for planning in case of illness during the coming flu season.

Spanish Powerpoint PDF		 This customizable 15-minute slide presentation is designed for parent education. It describes flu transmission and symptoms, addresses vaccine safety, and details immunization recommendations.
Vaccines:  Seasonal and Pandemic H1N1 Flu 
English		 This print-ready fact sheet identifies the groups recommended for seasonal and Pandemic H1N1 flu vaccination and addresses common questions about the vaccines. It also includes a list of telephone and internet resources.
