Safety Signs and Equipment Required at Public Pools

At every swimming pool and spa, where no lifeguard service is provided, a warning sign stating "WARNING - NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY" shall be posted in letters at least 4" high. In addition, the sign shall state "CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14 SHOULD NOT USE POOL WITHOUT ADULT IN ATTENDANCE". All signs must be legible and posted in a conspicuous place.
 
At every swimming pool and spa, a diagrammatic illustration of artificial respiration procedures shall be posted.

At every swimming pool and spa, a telephone number of an emergency paramedic service shall be posted. This may be placed in the space provided on the artificial respiration sign.
 

At every swimming pool and spa, a sign stating the maximum occupant capacity shall be posted in letters at least 4" high. The occupant capacity for a swimming pool shall be one bather for every 20 sq.ft. of pool surface area. The occupant capacity for a spa shall be one bather for every 10 sq.ft. of spa surface area.

At every swimming pool with a maximum depth of 6 ft. or less, a sign, stating "NO DIVING ALLOWED" shall be posted in letters at least 4" high.

At every spa, a precaution sign shall be posted with the following language:
 
  Elderly persons, pregnant women, infants and those with health conditions requiring medical care should consult with a physician before entering a spa.
 
  Unsupervised use by children under the age of 14 is prohibited.
 
  Hot water immersion while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, drugs or medicines may lead to serious consequences and is not recommended.
 
  Do not use alone.
 
  Long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness or fainting.
At every spa which requires an emergency shut-off switch, the switch shall be labeled with a sign stating "Spa Emergency Shut-off Switch."
Every swimming pool shall have a life ring at least 17" in diameter which is readily accessible. A 3/16 inch rope equal in length at least the width of the pool shall be attached to the life ring.
Every swimming pool shall have readily accessible, a body hook permanently attached to a pole at least 12 ft. in length.
