Vaccination Information
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health provides
free flu vaccine to the public. To find a clinic near you check
our flu site again upon flu season. In addition, retail clinics
will offer the flu shot for a small fee. To find these clinics, visit the
American Lung Association.
Who Should Get Vaccinated
ALL PERSONS, including school aged children, who want to reduce risk of becoming ill or
transmitting influenza to others should be vaccinated
Children aged 6 months to 8 years should receive 2 doses if not previously vaccinated
If children aged 6 months to 8 years received only one dose in their first year of
vaccination, they should receive 2 doses the following year
People at high risk for complications from the flu, including:
Children aged 6 months until their 5th birthday,
Pregnant women,
People 50 years of age and older, and
People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions;
People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities.
People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu (see above)
Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
