About Solid Waste Permitting & Surveillance Program
The primary responsibility of the program is to protect the health and safety of the residents of Los Angeles County and the environment. Staff oversees and maintain all the solid waste facilities permits for solid waste sites under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Local Enforcement Agency (LEA). Staff investigates illegal solid waste activities and conduct waste haulers and waste tires inspections for compliance with county ordinance and state regulations. We also serve as joint LEA for Sunshine Canyon Landfill for all related inspections and permitting actions.
The Solid Waste Permitting & Surveillance Program is certified by the State of California, Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) to act as a Local Enforcement Agency (LEA). The program enforces California Code of Regulations Title 27 & 14, Public Resources Code, and Los Angeles County Code Title 8 and Los Angeles County Code Title 20.
